Track Name: Boogiemen
It’s 3 A.M. and you can’t sleep ‘cause the boogiemen are on the TV screen
A thousand channels, and in HD, but fear’s the only frequency
You shiver, you shudder, you toss and turn under the covers
You lock the door, shut the windows and close your blinds
And then you hear a creaking in the floor
A bony finger scratching at the door
And a voice under the bed is whispering,
“Tell me, is that frightening? Are you terrified yet?”

As the talking heads deliver the night news feed, something’s festering underneath
And then in every corner the shadows creep
Making sure you’re horrified and glued to your seat
So tell me, is that frightening?
Are you terrified yet?

You won’t mind your living hell ‘cause you’re too busy scared to death
But what should really get you petrified and pale is that the boogiemen are all just in your head

You stammer, you stutter, you can’t seem to find the words to utter
You’ve become a slave to the chill going up your spine
And you’re so scared of what goes on outside—the horror movie that’s become your life
That you’re welcoming the wool they’re pulling up and over your eyes

You won’t mind your living hell ‘cause you’re too busy scared to death
But what should really get you petrified and pale is that the boogiemen are all just in your head
No, you just can’t be rational when you’re about to piss yourself
But don’t you know that in darkness dwell the fears of men?
Just shine the light of right of mind and they’ll disappear

All your fears are reflections of yourself
So tell me, what’s so frightening?
Terrifying?
Horrifying?
Petrifying?

Illuminate the terrors in your mind and you’ll shine
All your shadows shatter in the light
So shine
Track Name: Chef!
He’s got his mind marinating
Simmering on the low flame of thought
A spirit bubbling in the heat of the moment
And he’s stirring it up
He’s cookin’ up a recipe for the ages
Taking this, that, anything and everything
He’ll slice it up, dice it up, and toss it up and into the pot
And now he’s serving it up
I said he’s serving it up!

With a dash of courage and a pinch of pride…

Can you smell what Chef’s cookin’ in the kitchen?
A ticking time bomb for your tongue
If you can’t stand the heat, then get out!
When you’re finished with your first, get a second helping
He won’t stop ‘til you’re bellyful
If you can’t stand the heat, then get out!

He’s got a room full of drooling mouths waiting
To slurp, suck, swallow, and devour whatever he’s got
If you’ve got yourself a dish you think can hold a candle
Well, then, serve it up, now, sucka!
I said serve it up!

With two parts heart and three parts mind…

Can you smell what Chef’s cookin’ in the kitchen?
A ticking time bomb for your tongue
If you can’t stand the heat, then get out!
When you’re finished with your first, get a second helping
He won’t stop ‘til you’re bellyful
If you can’t stand the heat, then get out!
Track Name: Tête-À-Tête
You ain’t heard of a suicide quite like mine
‘Cause I never feel as alive as when I’m on either side of an intellectual tête-à-tête
Of a moral/ethical argument
Where both heads can give as good as they get and come driven by a mutual intent:
What the Greeks would call a glorious death, but strictly in the figurative
To lose is to learn

Because tension’s what creation is—a confluence of different voices
So let’s get a jam session in, whatever your instrument is
Let’s harmonize in our dissonance and we’ll come to find it all complements
Things like “wrong” and “right” are irrelevant when we’ve crucified our narcissist
We’ll bring our song up to that perfect pitch and know we’ve played some funky shit
To blend is to birth
Track Name: Waterwalking
Blown back in my wake as I “waterwalk” into your daydream
‘Cause you can’t tell the puddle you’re in from the sea
See, what keeps you in the kiddie pool is some notion that you’re a fool
And that I’m spoon-bending
Levitating
Coming up from some higher school

Wake up!
No, it’s not some miracle
I’m not walking on water
No, I’m not on some spiritual trip
I’m just the only one who bothers

Puking in your suit as I “waterwalk” into your boardroom
‘Cause you can’t tell a paycheck from a prison cell
See, what keeps you grinning greedy is some notion that you’re winning
And that I’m daydreaming
Stagnating
Working through a rebellious phase

Wake up!
No, it’s not so simple
I’m not just another rebel
No, it’s a matter of principle
I’m just trying to get better
No, it’s not some miracle
I’m not walking on water
No, I’m not on some spiritual trip
I’m just the only one who bothers

You can bend spoons and change your tune
You can break out if you want to
You can learn to lose your suit
All it takes is some resolve to

In over your head and stinking in your suit
‘Cause you can’t tell that there’s no difference between me and you
See, what keeps you bottom feeding, and what keeps you shallow swimming
Is that you’re thinking distance, while I’m constantly pushing
I’m “waterwalking” through life
Track Name: Engine of the World
Well, it’s a lonely road taking sides with an abstraction
To be loyal to principles and holding reason as your compass
You’ll find your words bouncing off the walls obstructing progress
It may feel futile but a restlessness prohibits your inaction

A man of mind plowing through the mires of apathy and silence
Through a sea of souls, somnambulant and willing their heads into the sand
They polarize at the sight of any sign of any kind of opposition
They’ll grip their habit tight and kick and scream in separation
So, the only route
The way, it seems
Is to be the change we wish to see
To beat a path and prove it can be followed
Singing, “I want to be the engine of the world.”

You transcend yourself when devoted to an ideal
You become much more than flesh and bones and impermanence
So just keep treading on
Steadfast, confident, relentless
Pushing what moves the earth well past the goal, and then keep on going
Because each one of us holds the torque and key
It’s just a matter of firing it up
And being true to heart and mind in the frontiers of questioning
Singing, “I want to be the engine of the world.”

I want to relieve the shoulders of Atlas
I want to be the engine of the world
Track Name: Blizzard in a Sphere
A boy shuts his door and switches on the sun
Opens up a window in a windowless wall
Any landscape, any scene he likes
He flies without the wind, climbs mountains without the frostbite

An endless view hidden in the blankest stare
No thoughts, no concerns, no cares

The boy holds the world in the cradle of his palm
A liquid air surrounds a tiny plastic town
The boy gives a shake, sending shimmers afloat
Covering it all in a blanket of faux snow

Boy builds a blizzard in a sphere
A makeshift microcosm that takes him far away from here

He just sits still but travels miles and miles
Never paying mind to all the snow falling outside

Boy builds a blizzard in a sphere
A makeshift microcosm that takes him far away from here
Track Name: Seeds
Under our barren land there’s subtle movement
A budding change
A bloom unfurling
In due time they’ll slowly surface
To spread their seed and shift perspectives
Taking care to carry us with them

And their roots will anchor their new way
As they venture across the expanse of our brightening potential
Vivid and lush with promise
But here in our sullen wasteland
The sum of our graces fallen
Sowing our futures into the mirror of all our discontent
We search for a horizon in the desert that clouds our vision
We sit and can’t help but wonder, “What are they waiting for?”

We’ll hear them whisper through our breathing winter,
“We’re here gestating
Lying, waiting for our time—the right time to rise.”

Well, it’s about time
It’s the right time to rise
Track Name: Joker Face
Here I am, sitting in a seedy downtown bar
The Joker deals the cards
A chalk white face, a purple suit and shiny wing tips
A Glasgow smile and a Cuban cigar

He says, “I’ll see your raging ambition and I’ll raise you sedition.
Who says you can’t have a little bit of fun?”
I say, “I’m calling—all in—so may the best hand dealt win.”
He says, “Son, it was settled long before it began.
See, Sonny, you’ve gotta learn to play a little dirty.
Straight shootin’ only makes it easier for me to win it.
Deep down you must have known the tables would turn.
I rigged the deck and a full house beats your two pair.”

He says, “You’ve got something to learn, boy: it’s dog-eat-dog in this world.
Get this and get ahead.”

But that’s so cynical

“Well, well, well,” I said, “I see you need a little regulation.
I’ll be dealing ‘em myself from now on.”
He says, “I’ll see your optimism and I’ll raise you religion.
See? Every good idea just goes wrong.
This game goes much deeper than the dealin’.
Bad beats are fairy tales designed to keep you playin’.
Deep down you must have known you don’t have a chance.
I’ve got an ace up my sleeve, now read ‘em and weep.”

He says, “Try all you want to control, boy,
But as long as you play it by the book you’ll be drawing dead.”
You’ll find it’s all just a joke, boy, and the best poker face is a smile.
That’s just the way it is.”

Well I don’t care about how it is—only how I want it to be
I don’t help things exist if I don’t like what they mean
So you’re the only card game in town, but fair’s just not how you play
So I’ll fold for now and I’ll go start my own game

I just don’t care how it is—that’s not how I want it to be
And I don’t help things exist if I don’t believe in what they mean
So you’re the only card game around, but I don’t like how you play
So I’ll fold for now and I’ll go start my own game

‘Cause I’m not so cynical
Track Name: Alchemists
A random roach motel’s bedside table
Therein lies the key to my master plan
Brown and leather-bound, beside the Bible
Inscribed under the title it says, “Placed by The King of Salem”

I’m spreading the word, just like a Gideon
An Alchemist in the lull trying to turn leaden souls into gold

Coelho’s masterwork—Santiago’s fable
Left inside the nightstand, room after room
Before the unsuspecting eyes of mourning sleepers
Should they look inside they’ll find their dream is alive

I’m spreading the word, just like a Gideon
A word I’m hoping they’ll learn—and the word is inspiration

‘Cause I’m leading a legion
I’ll be the white feather catalyst calling them to unlock their desires
‘Cause when you follow your legend, all the universe conspires to attain it
All you need is a spark—an inspirational thought—for the flame of fulfillment to start

Because the world is brimming full of sullen wanderers
Dragging their feet through their self-imposed exiles
Buckling under the weight of their growing fear to fail
Feeling gray and aged—and hard to wake

So I’m leading a legion
I’ll be the white feather catalyst calling them to unlock their desires
‘Cause when you follow your legend, all the universe conspires to attain it
All you need is a spark—an inspirational thought—for the flame of fulfillment to start

The years pass and I’m carrying out my plan
Then, I find myself in a room I’ve never been
I open the drawer to find the good book’s already inside

Someone’s spreading the word
Just like the King of Salem
Another Alchemist in the lull
Proving there’s a spark and the flame’s ‘bout to come

We’re spreading the word
Just like the King of Salem
A word we’re hoping you’ll learn
—And the word is inspiration
Track Name: The Revolution Will Be CGI
Quiet on the set!
Take one of The Revolution:
The scene is set; script is read; blocking is down
But you’re staring out into the lens,
stuck, stiff, emotionless, and tongue-tied
Can I get some motivation here?
Where’s all the passion? Where’s your conviction?
It takes a little more than reciting lines to play a part
Cut!

Take two of The Revolution:
Lights, camera, more inaction
We’re calling in the make-up crew to force your face to feign interest
Can I get a stunt heart in here?
This bag of bones can’t be bothered to breathe or beat
Isn’t there an actor here who can act alive?

I’ve got an open mind for comments and rewrites
But without a rising action there’s no dénouement

You want revolution without leaving your chair
But you’re broke if you bargain with what isn’t there
I’m tired of appealing to your better angels
We can’t wrap production unless you act

We’re losing light and our budget’s tight
And your best work so far is on the cutting room floor
Mamihlapinatapai!

What can I expect from you when your demo reel’s a still frame?
No one can direct you but yourself
I can’t expect much from you when your method is rigor mortis
No one can incite you but yourself

Take three of the Revolution:
Green screens and 3-D motion-capture
The camera’s shooting emptiness; a void we’ll fill in post-production
Animate a human right here
We’ll perfect his speech and program some feeling
The Revolution will not be live, but CGI

You talk evolution but I’ve seen this before
You passed the audition on anger alone
But your crippled complacence makes your trailer a hearse
You’re much less Guevara than Hearst

You want revolution without leaving your chair
But you’re broke if you bargain with what isn’t there
I’m so sick of appealing to your better angels
We’re wrapping production until you act
